Artist in Residence at The Latinx Project (2024-2025)

The Latinx Project is thrilled to announce the next cycle of the Artist-in-Residence program open to emerging and mid-career artists based in the United States. As part of the Artist-in-Residence program, the selected artist will present a solo exhibition on campus with the option of curatorial support and a public program. The most compelling applications engage with larger contemporary or historic dialogues in Latinx Studies. Interested applicants can apply via the Google form below; applicants should include a concise portfolio that illustrates their artistic practice and approach. Key Details

  • Artist Honorarium: $10,000

  • Production budget: Up to $5,000 managed by TLP (used for a reception, exhibition design and production, artist materials, shipping artworks, and exhibition documentation)

Expectations 

  • 1 solo exhibition with a curator of choice. Artists are encouraged to produce at least one new artwork for the exhibition. 

  • 1 public program (Artist Talk)

A.I.R. FAQ


  • What are recent artist-in-residence exhibitions? Please visit our exhibitions website to view recent exhibitions. 

  • Who can apply to the Artist-in-Residence program at The Latinx Project? Emerging or mid-career artists based in the U.S. can apply. 

  • Can I apply if I have another residency lined up? We would like to offer this residency to emerging artists and people interested in further developing their practice. If you are selected we will ask that you do not have other residencies during your residency at NYU.

  • Do I need to live/be in New York while in residence? No, but you should be available for the exhibition installation and opening and a public program or panel.

  • What is the duration of the residency? The residency is flexible and can be one or two semesters or the entire academic year. There are no responsibilities or requests of your time beyond collaborating with TLP staff on a solo exhibition and an accompanying public program.

  • What media is accepted/encouraged? All media are accepted. Our exhibition space is best equipped for visual art including painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, and installation.

  • Does the Latinx Project offer studio space? No, TLP does not offer studio space.

  • Does the Latinx Project offer office space? Yes, TLP offers office space at our NYU offices. 

  • Do I need to produce new work while in residence? No.

  • What resources does the A.I.R. receive? The artist-in-residence receives an honorarium award of up to $10,000 and a $5,000 production budget managed by TLP for a solo exhibition at New York University with the option of curatorial support, opportunities to develop related public programming, exhibition documentation, press materials, and PR support.

  • Can I access NYU Libraries as an A.I.R.? Yes

  • What is your rate of acceptance? For the 2023 application cycle, we received 185 A.I.R. applications and 2 artists-in-residence were selected through a panel process. Each year we have also been able to identify up to four or five artists that are referred to our curatorial fellowships for inclusion in our group exhibitions.
